The Heroes Journey storytelling workshops
Find your Voice. Tell your story.

About our workshops

The Heroes Journey Storytelling Workshops are the only non-profit program that bridges defender-civilian gaps using purposeful storytelling to achieve relevance in life and business…because nobody else is coming, and we need the wisdom of our protectors here at home, now, more than ever.
A Warrior Storytelling Workshop provides a safe place for defenders, their families and families of the fallen to begin to untangle their lived trauma and express their experiences in ways that promote healing, growth, and empowerment.

The mission

The Heroes Journey Workshops help our nation’s defenders and their families, and families of the fallen find their voice and tell their story. Warriors learn that sharing their stories, even the ones they don’t want to tell themselves, can heal, can reconnect, and can validate their service. By sharing their scars, they help our country bridge the defender-civilian gap that grows wider every day.

The generosity of scars

Completing your hero’s journey

A Generosity of Scars workshop will help you:

Build Your Story:
practice telling it, and then share it with others, all in a safe environment.

Help Heal:
the re-traumatization caused by the chaotic end of the 20-year Forever War.

Become a Warrior Storyteller:
someone who has lived a life of service to others & shares the wisdom of that life of service through purposeful stories.

Take the Mic

STRATEGIC STORYTELLING FROM THE STAGE

By participating in a Take the Mic workshop, you will:

Work With Our Amazing Story Coaches:
U.S. & Afghan warriors, Gold Star family members, military family members, & first responders. They are the most relevant communicators in the industry.

Learn and Practice:
the readiness framework for taking the mic: train, prepare, engage, & recover.

Learn to Overcome:
the resistance, self-sabotage, & fear that keeps you from telling your story.

Create and Deliver:
a well-designed story your audience will remember through context, emotional connection, & long-term memory through narrative transportation.

Stories heal

I was referred to The Heroes Journey Generosity of Scars workshop through a friend, a three time Purple Heart recipient. I spent 40 months in Iraq and Afghanistan and have spent nearly 9 years trying to put all those experiences into proper perspective - the guilt, the pain, and the sadness. In a matter of hours with you all, I feel at peace, like not just the way people say those words, but actually experiencing a sense of calm.

Why it matters
Our protectors have something important to say. This program helps our protectors find their voice and tell their story in transition. There are a range of studies showing that storytelling is a powerful modality for healing veterans, first responders, and their families from the residual impact of service above self. Storytelling is also a powerful tool to bridge the civil-military gap that enables our protectors and their families to lead and influence more effectively at home.
“You’re going to heal yourself as you go through this. You’re going to heal yourself because stories heal the brain, they heal the heart, and they heal the soul.”
- Bo Eason, former NFL standout and international presence/story coach
